Weird stripe on salmon

Strange Stripe on Salmon

Hello, everyone! I purchased frozen salmon for the first time yesterday and let it defrost in the fridge overnight. When I checked it this morning, I noticed some unusual brownish areas in the middle, which I’ve never encountered in fresh fillets before. Is it safe to eat? I’m not sure how to share a picture here. Edit: I hope this link works! salmon

  1. It’s common to see some discoloration on frozen salmon, especially if it has been frozen for a while or if there was any quality issue during processing. The brownish parts you’re seeing could be a result of freezer burn or it might just be a natural variation in the fish.

If it smells normal and doesn’t feel slimy, it’s generally safe to eat. However, if you’re unsure about the quality or if it has an off smell, it might be best to err on the side of caution and not consume it. Cooking the salmon thoroughly can also help in ensuring its safety. If you can, consider discussing this with the retailer or checking the packaging for any signs of spoilage.
