Woody chicken makes me want to scream

Woody chicken has me at my wit’s end! The situation in my area has become unbearable. Since I don’t really eat red meat or pork, I’ve been trying to avoid it entirely, but it feels like I’m rolling the dice every time I order chicken. The chances of getting a woody breast are about 50/50 now, and even restaurants are serving up random chewy chicken sandwiches.

I switched to tenderloins, thinking I found a solution, but unfortunately, now they’re just as bad. They’re tough, chewy, and have that oddly stringy texture. I really thought I was just cooking them wrong, but I haven’t changed my cooking methods at all, and they used to turn out fine.

Is anyone else struggling with this? It’s so frustrating!

Edit: Sometimes I feel like I’m losing my mind because nobody seems to be talking about this issue, and it’s honestly pretty serious. It’s maddening that such a major food source is so messed up and inedible. Thanks for commiserating with me, haha. I appreciate all the great insights from everyone in the comments—this has been really helpful!

  1. I totally hear you on the frustration with woody chicken! It’s surprising how common it’s become, and it can really ruin a meal. I think a lot of people assume it’s just a cooking issue, but it seems like the quality of the chicken is definitely changing. Have you tried looking for different brands or sourcing chicken from local farms? Sometimes you can find better quality options that avoid those woody textures. Also, I’d recommend experimenting with different cooking methods or marinades since they can help tenderize the meat and improve the texture a bit. It’s comforting to know others are experiencing the same issues, though! Hopefully, we can start finding solutions together and get back to enjoying our chicken without the frustration.
