Woody chicken makes me want to scream

Woody chicken has me ready to pull my hair out! The situation in my area has gotten out of hand. Since I don’t eat red meat or pork, I’m stuck with this problem. These days, it’s like flipping a coin when it comes to getting a decent chicken breast – the odds of ending up with a woody one are about 50/50. Even restaurants occasionally serve up a nasty woody sandwich! I tried switching to tenderloins, thinking I’d found a solution, but sadly, they’re just as tough and chewy, often stringy and over-the-top “chickeny.” At first, I thought I was cooking them wrong since they’d never been like this before, but my cooking methods haven’t changed at all.

Has anyone else felt this frustration? It’s really driving me up a wall!

Edit: Sometimes I genuinely feel like I’m losing my mind because no one seems to be talking about this, and it’s a serious issue! It’s upsetting that such a major food source is in such a sorry state. Thanks for joining me in my frustration, haha. There’s a ton of helpful info in the comments from others who’ve experienced the same thing, so thank you all!

  1. I totally get your frustration! It’s wild how inconsistent chicken quality has become lately. The woody breast issue seems to be more common than ever, and it’s such a letdown, especially when you’re relying on chicken as a primary protein source. I’ve experienced the same thing with tenderloins, too. It’s crazy how a standard ingredient can turn into a gamble, whether you’re cooking at home or eating out.

Have you tried reaching out to different suppliers or maybe looking for organic or free-range options? Sometimes those brands are less likely to have the woody texture. It’s definitely worth experimenting with!

And don’t worry, you’re not losing your mind—plenty of people are feeling the same pain. Let’s hope for a return to more reliable chicken soon!
