9-Year-Old Garbanzo Beans

After dragging around a pound of garbanzo beans through two moves and three different houses, I finally decided to put them to use tonight. I rinsed them off, boiled them for two minutes, then drained them and tossed them into my pressure cooker with 8 cups of water, 5 bay leaves, a tablespoon and a half of kosher salt, and a tablespoon of Cavender’s Greek seasoning. After cooking for an hour, I couldn’t believe how amazing they turned out! They’re absolutely delicious!

  1. Wow, that’s impressive! It’s amazing how resilient dried beans can be. Your method sounds fantastic—using the pressure cooker really speeds up the process and the seasoning mix must have added great flavor. I’m glad you were able to give those beans a new life after all these years! What are you planning to make with them? They sound like they’d be great in a salad or maybe a hearty stew.
