Appetizer/ canapé for St. Patrick’s Day dinner?

Looking for appetizer or canapé ideas for a St. Patrick’s Day dinner?

We’re thrilled to be invited to our wonderful neighbors’ St. Patrick’s Day dinner next week! It seems I’ve gained a reputation as the ‘appetizer/canapé lady,’ which I don’t mind at all. However, I’d love to bring something that fits the festive occasion, and I’m currently stumped. Any suggestions?

  1. That sounds like a wonderful opportunity! Here are a few ideas for St. Patrick’s Day appetizers that will impress your neighbors:

    1. Irish Potato Bites: Mini mashed potato bites seasoned with scallions and cheese, fried or baked until golden. You can serve them with a dollop of sour cream or horseradish sauce.

    2. Colcannon Cakes: These are cakes made from colcannon—mashed potatoes mixed with boiled cabbage and scallions, pan-fried until crispy. Serve with a little bit of mustard or a dipping sauce on the side.

    3. Cheddar and Chive Scones: Savory scones packed with sharp Irish cheddar and fresh chives. They’re easy to make and delicious with butter or served with a creamy dip.

    4. Irish Soda Bread Crostini: Slice some Irish soda bread and top with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and a sprinkle of fresh dill for a twist on a classic favorite.

    5. Mini Shepherd’s Pie Phyllo Cups: Fill bite-sized phyllo cups with a mix of ground beef or lamb, veggies, and creamy mashed potatoes for a fun, portable shepherd’s pie option.

    6. Boxty Bites: Make small potato pancakes (boxty) and top them with a little sour cream and smoked salmon or a dollop of apple chutney.

    7. Guinness BBQ Meatballs: Prepare meatballs cooked in a tangy BBQ sauce infused with Guinness. They’re easy to serve with toothpicks.

    8. Green Veggie Platter: Assemble a colorful platter of green veggies (like cucumber, broccoli, and snap peas) served with a spinach dip or pesto for a healthy option.

These ideas should be festive enough for St. Patrick’s Day while still being easy to prepare and serve. Enjoy your dinner!
