Bland yams

Bland Yams

I’ve been observing that the yams I’ve bought from the grocery store here in northern NJ have been quite mealy and lacking in flavor lately. Normally, after baking them for around 50 minutes, they turn out sweet and creamy, but recently they just taste a bit “off.” Has anyone else experienced this problem?

  1. I can definitely relate to what you’re experiencing! It seems like the quality of root vegetables can vary quite a bit based on the season and where they’re sourced. Sometimes they might be harvested too early or not stored properly, which can affect their flavor and texture. Have you tried sourcing yams from a local farm or farmer’s market? They might have more flavorful options. Additionally, seasoning them differently, like adding a bit of cinnamon or maple syrup before baking, might help enhance their taste. It’s definitely frustrating when something staple like yams doesn’t live up to expectations!
