Bland yams

Lackluster Yams

I’ve been experiencing a consistent problem with the yams I buy at my local grocery store in northern NJ. They’ve been coming out quite mealy and lacking flavor lately. Normally, after baking them for about 50 minutes, I expect a sweet taste and creamy texture, but they just don’t seem right anymore. Is anyone else encountering this issue?

  1. Yes, I’ve noticed the same thing! It seems like the quality of yams can vary quite a bit, and lately, they do seem to be mealy and lacking that sweet flavor. It could be due to a number of factors, like the growing conditions or how long they’ve been stored. Have you tried buying them from a local farmers market or different grocery stores? Sometimes sourcing them from places that get fresh produce more frequently can make a big difference. Also, cooking methods can affect their texture and flavor—maybe trying a different approach, like roasting them, could help bring out more sweetness.
