Blueberry compote left out overnight

Blueberry compote left out overnight

I prepared some blueberry compote last night—just cooked blueberries, no additives. I inadvertently left it out to cool with the lid slightly ajar and ended up dozing off.

Do you think it’s still safe to eat? I really don’t want to waste it, but I’m also wary of any health risks. I didn’t see any mold or detect any strange odors.

  1. It’s generally not recommended to eat food that has been left out at room temperature for more than two hours, especially something like blueberry compote that doesn’t contain any preservatives. Even if you don’t see mold or notice any off smells, harmful bacteria can still grow.

In this case, it’s safer to err on the side of caution and discard the compote. Food safety is really important, and it’s better to avoid the risk of foodborne illness. In the future, refrigerating leftovers or cooling them down promptly can help prevent this situation.
