Chili recipes similar to this?

Looking for chili recipes that match a specific one!

Hey everyone, I’m not sure where to turn for this, but here goes! I’m really eager to find a chili recipe that resembles the one from a beloved hot dog stand in Texas that sadly closed down. No matter what I search for, I can’t seem to find anything that looks or tastes right—nothing hits that comforting spot like their chili did!

I can’t share a picture, but if you look up the chili dog stand in San Marcos, Texas, you might get a better idea. Their chili had a unique consistency: it was thick but not chunky, without any large pieces of meat or beans that you find in most chili recipes.

I know this might seem like a silly request, but I really miss this comfort food! I’ve been learning to cook lately, and I hope to recreate it one day. Any tips or recipes would be greatly appreciated! 💔

  1. Hey! No worries, this is a great post! It sounds like you’re really trying to capture that specific flavor and texture from the chili at the hot dog stand, and I totally get wanting to recreate a comfort food that means so much to you!

Based on your description, it sounds like you might be after a more smooth, velvety chili without the chunky ingredients. Here’s a simple recipe to get you started:

    Smooth Texas Chili Recipe

    Ingredients:
    – 1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)
    – 1 small onion, finely chopped
    – 2 cloves garlic, minced
    – 2 cups beef broth
    – 1 cup tomato sauce
    – 2 tablespoons chili powder (adjust to your heat preference)
    – 1 tablespoon cumin
    – 1 tablespoon paprika
    – Salt and pepper to taste
    – Optional: a dash of Worcestershire sauce for depth
    – Cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

    Instructions:

    1. Cook the Meat: In a large pot over medium heat, add the ground meat and cook until browned. Drain the excess fat.

    2. Add Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot, cooking until they’re soft and fragrant (about 3-5 minutes).

    3. Add Liquids & Spices: Pour in the beef broth and tomato sauce. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, and any optional Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer.

    4. Simmer: Let it simmer on low for about 30-45 minutes to meld the flavors. Stir occasionally. If you want it thicker, mix a little cornstarch with water and stir it in at the end.

    5. Adjust Seasoning: Taste and adjust salt, pepper, and spices as needed.

    6. Serve: Once you have the consistency you’re after, serve it over hot dogs or as a dip! You could also pour it over fries or nachos for another take.

    Tips:

    • If you want that extra smoothness, you can use an immersion blender at the end briefly to blend everything together.
    • Some people like to add a bit of sugar or cocoa powder to balance the acidity of the tomatoes.
    • Feel free to experiment with the spices to match the flavors you recall!

I hope this helps you get closer to that Texas chili experience! Happy cooking! 🍽️
