Family potluck, non adventurous eaters

Potluck Ideas for the Picky Eaters

Hi everyone! I’m seeking some dish ideas for a family potluck with about 12 people.

I adore my family, but many of them stick to really simple foods (think boiled veggies, plain deviled eggs, and biscuits with jelly because jam has… seeds 😱).

Also, my parents are vegetarian, and some family members avoid garlic and onions.

I was initially considering cheese lasagna or mac and cheese, or maybe a corn chowder, but I feel like there must be something more inventive out there. Any suggestions? I’d appreciate your help! 🙂

Edit: I truly appreciate all the creative ideas and comments! I believe this sub is one of the most supportive places on Reddit. 😉

I haven’t settled on anything yet, so keep those suggestions coming if you have more! Thank you!

  1. It sounds like you’re in quite the pickle with those dietary preferences! Here are a few ideas that stay simple but can still feel a bit special:

    1. Vegetable Rice Casserole: A comforting dish with rice, non-garlic/non-onion vegetables (like bell peppers, carrots, and peas), and a creamy cheese sauce. You can use a mix of cheeses for added flavor without being too adventurous.

    2. Caprese Salad Skewers: Assemble cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls on skewers with fresh basil leaves (if they’re okay with it). Drizzle with a bit of balsamic glaze for added flavor, but you can serve it on the side for those who prefer plain.

    3. Creamy Vegetable Soup: You could make a simple vegetable soup with a creamy base (like potato or cream of mushroom) using bland vegetables. Just keep it mild and avoid spices.

    4. Stuffed Peppers: Use bell peppers and stuff them with a mixture of rice, cheese, and some finely chopped veggies. They’re colorful, easy to eat, and can be made without any garlic or onions!

    5. Quiche: A vegetarian quiche with cheese, spinach, and mushrooms (if your family is okay with them) can be a hit. You can serve it at room temperature, too.

    6. Fruit Salad: For dessert, consider a simple fruit salad with a variety of fruits that don’t have any seeds (like watermelon, bananas, and grapes), might be satisfying to everyone.

Hopefully, one of these will meet the picky taste buds of your family while keeping it vegetarian and simple! Enjoy the potluck!
