Food Handling Gloves

Food Handling Gloves

I have to admit, I really can’t stand onions. As a result, I never include them in my cooking.

However, I have a gentleman friend who enjoys them, and I find myself cooking for him regularly. The smell of onions clinging to my hands after chopping them is something I truly dislike. Even after washing with Dawn dish soap multiple times, the scent lingers for about a week.

Should I opt for disposable vinyl gloves, or would it be better to invest in a sturdy pair of rubber or plastic kitchen gloves dedicated specifically for cutting onions?

  1. It sounds like you’re in quite the culinary conundrum! If the smell of onions lingers on your hands and you’re looking for a solution, both options you mentioned can work well, but they each have their pros and cons.

Disposable vinyl gloves are a convenient option, especially for short-term tasks like chopping onions. They’re easy to use, and you can just toss them out when you’re done, keeping your hands odor-free. However, they might not be as durable if you’re working with heavier ingredients.

On the other hand, a pair of heavier plastic or rubber kitchen gloves can provide more protection and can be reused, but you’ll want to make sure they’re easy to clean. They can also help with other cooking tasks beyond onions. Just make sure to give them a good wash after each use to keep them fresh.

Ultimately, if you’re only cooking for your gentleman friend occasionally and want a quick and easy solution, disposable gloves might be the way to go. But if you think you’ll be cooking with onions (or other smelly ingredients) often, investing in a sturdy pair of reusable gloves could be worth it. Happy cooking!
