Got burned by a hot pan

Ouch! I just burned two fingers on a hot pan that came out of the oven. I had gloves on one hand, but I completely forgot to grab a second pair. There’s some redness, and my skin feels tight. What should I do to treat it? Thanks!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your burn! Here’s what you can do to help soothe it:

    1. Cool the Burn: Immediately run cool (not cold) water over the burned fingers for 10-20 minutes to help reduce pain and swelling. If you can’t do this, applying a cool, wet compress can also help.

    2. Avoid Ice: Don’t use ice directly on the burn, as it can cause more damage to the skin.

    3. Keep it Clean: After cooling the burn, gently clean the area with mild soap and water.

    4. Apply Moisturizer: Once it’s dry, you can apply a burn ointment or aloe vera gel to help soothe the skin and keep it moisturized.

    5. Pain Relief: If you’re in pain, you can consider taking over-the-counter pain relief like ibuprofen or acetaminophen.

    6. Watch for Signs of Infection: Keep an eye on the burn. If you notice increased redness, swelling, pus, or if it doesn’t start to heal in a few days, consider seeing a doctor.

    7. Avoid Breaking Blisters: If blisters form, do not pop them as this can lead to infection.

If you’re worried about the severity of the burn or if it covers a large area, it’s always best to consult a healthcare professional. Take care!
