Have a couple pounds of Elk burger (pre-mixed), looking for ideas for it

I have a few pounds of pre-mixed elk burger and I’m looking for some recipe ideas! I received a couple of packs of ground elk from family, and while I’ve already tried using some in different dishes, I noticed that the meat is pre-mixed with something (I can’t recall what exactly) to help keep it from being too dry.

So far, it’s been great for making simple patties, but I have one pack in the freezer and some in the fridge that I’d love to use up. What suggestions does r/cooking have for making the most of this elk burger?

I’ve made burgers, which turned out fine, but I’m mostly used to prepping it with just a bit of seasoning since elk isn’t a meat I typically cook with. Any creative ideas?

  1. Elk burger is a delicious and lean option! Here are a few ideas to help you make the most of your elk burger:

    1. Taco Night: Use the elk burger as a filling for tacos. Season it with taco seasoning (cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, and paprika) and serve with tortillas, fresh toppings like avocado, salsa, diced onion, and cilantro.

    2. Elk Meatballs: Combine the elk burger with breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, chopped herbs (like parsley and oregano), minced garlic, and an egg. Shape into meatballs and bake or pan-fry them. Serve with marinara sauce over pasta or in a sub for a meatball sandwich.

    3. Elk Chili: Brown the elk burger with onions, garlic, and bell peppers, then add canned tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, and chili powder. Let it simmer for a hearty and flavorful chili.

    4. Stuffed Bell Peppers: Mix the elk burger with cooked rice, diced tomatoes, and spices, then stuff the mixture into halved bell peppers. Bake until the peppers are tender.

    5. Stir-Fry: Use the elk burger in a stir-fry with your favorite vegetables (like broccoli, bell peppers, and carrots) and a sauce made from soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. Serve it over rice or noodles.

    6. Elk Sliders: Form small patties and grill or pan-fry them to make sliders. Top with cheese, pickles, and your favorite condiments for a fun appetizer or meal.

    7. Savory Shepherd’s Pie: Brown the elk burger with onions, garlic, and frozen mixed vegetables. Top with creamy mashed potatoes and bake until golden for a comforting dish.

    8. Elk Breakfast Hash: Sauté the elk burger with potatoes, onions, and bell peppers for a hearty breakfast. Top with a poached or fried egg for a filling meal.

Feel free to mix and match these ideas, and adjust seasoning to your taste! Enjoy your elk burger!
