How do I cook this cut of pork?

I’m in need of some advice on cooking pork! I’ve received a 2.8kg piece of pork, but I’m not sure what cut it is, which makes it challenging to find the right cooking methods. Does anyone have a general guideline for cooking time per kilogram?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, r/Cooking!

  1. To help you out, the cooking method will depend on the cut of pork you have. If you can identify the cut (for example, shoulder, loin, belly, etc.), that will help determine the best cooking method. However, I can provide some general guidelines.

Here’s a rough guide for cooking different cuts of pork:

    1. Pork Loin (roast):
    2. Cook at 145°F (63°C), letting it rest for 10 minutes after cooking.
    3. Cooking time: Approximately 25 minutes per kg at 180°C (350°F).

    4. Pork Shoulder (pulled pork):

    5. Cook low and slow, preferably at 120°C (250°F) for tenderness.
    6. Cooking time: About 1.5 to 2 hours per kg.

    7. Pork Belly:

    8. Cook at a higher temperature initially to crisp the skin, then lower the heat.
    9. Cooking time: Roughly 30 minutes per kg at 220°C (430°F), then reduce to 150°C (300°F) for another 1-2 hours.

    10. Pork Ribs:

    11. Best cooked low and slow (you can also use a grill or smoker).
    12. Cooking time: About 2-3 hours at 150°C (300°F).

    13. Pork Chops:

    14. Quick cooking methods like grilling or pan-searing work best.
    15. Cook at 145°F (63°C); about 6-8 minutes per side on medium-high heat.

As you don’t know the cut, I suggest checking for any identifying marks or texture differences in the meat. If it has a bone, it may be a rib or shoulder. If it’s more solid and rectangular, it could be a loin or rack.

For detailed instructions based on the cut, you can also try using a meat thermometer to ensure accurate cooking temperatures.

Lastly, let the meat rest after cooking for a better flavor and texture! Enjoy your cooking adventure!
