How do you keep your recipes?

How do you manage your recipes?

I’m looking to start recording the recipes I love instead of relying on memory or searching for them online. Currently, I’m jotting them down in a notes app on my phone, but I think I need a more effective method. I’m considering either transferring them to a Word document to print or using an app, though I haven’t explored any options yet.

So, how do you keep track of your recipes? Any tips on staying organized?

Also, I’d love to hear about one of your favorite recipes! I enjoy trying new dishes for the family to savor.

One response to “How do you keep your recipes?”

  1. That’s a great idea! Keeping a well-organized recipe collection can really enhance your cooking experience. Here are some methods and tips that might help you:

    Ways to Organize Your Recipes:

    1. Recipe Binder:
    2. Create a physical binder with clear sleeves. You can print out recipes from your phone or write them down. Organize them by category (appetizers, main dishes, desserts, etc.) and use dividers for easy access.

    3. Digital Recipe Apps:

    4. Consider using recipe management apps like Paprika, Yummly, or Recipe Keeper. These apps allow you to save, organize, and search your recipes easily. Some even have meal planning features and grocery lists.

    5. Google Docs or Evernote:

    6. If you prefer keeping things digital but not in a dedicated app, you can use Google Docs or Evernote. Create a document or notebook for your recipes, and organize them using tags or folders.

    7. Spreadsheets:

    8. If you’re a fan of organization, a simple Google Sheets or Excel spreadsheet can work well. You can create columns for ingredients, cooking time, serving size, and notes.

    9. Index Cards:

    10. For a more traditional approach, consider writing recipes on index cards. Store them in a recipe box, organizing them by category or meal type.

    Tips for Keeping it Organized:

    • Categories: Create categories or tags (e.g., vegetarian, quick meals, family favorites) to make searching easier.
    • Rating System: You might want to rate the recipes based on your family’s feedback. This way, you know which ones to make again.
    • Notes Section: Leave space for notes about modifications you made or suggestions for next time to continually improve the dish.
    • Date Recipes: Add the date you tried a new recipe, so you can keep track of your cooking journey.

Here’s one of my favorite family recipes that’s a hit at dinner time!

    Creamy Garlic Tuscan Chicken

    Ingredients:
    – 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
    – 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
    – 2 cups spinach
    – 4 cloves garlic, minced
    – 1 cup heavy cream
    – 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
    – Salt and pepper to taste
    – Olive oil
    – Grated Parmesan cheese for serving

    Instructions:
    1. Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
    2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Cook the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side until golden and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
    3. In the same skillet, add a little more olive oil if needed, then add minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
    4. Add the cherry tomatoes and cook until soft. Stir in spinach and cook until wilted.
    5. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Add the chicken back to the skillet; cook for 2-3 more minutes.
    6. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese on top.
