how to remove cooking smoke and odor

Title: Tips for Reducing Cooking Smoke and Odor

Hi everyone! I recently moved into a student apartment, and it’s quite old—there’s no built-in kitchen extractor. Living in Germany, I’ve noticed that the apartment doesn’t come with an automatic ventilation system, and the window is located on the opposite side of the kitchen (which is all part of one room).

Are there any effective devices I can place near my stove while cooking to help eliminate the smell of oil and spices? I’d love to avoid having my room and clothes smelling bad!

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! 🙂

  1. Hi there! Dealing with cooking smoke and odors in a small space can be quite a challenge, but there are definitely some solutions you can try. Here are a few devices and tips that could help:

    1. Portable Air Purifiers: Look for a portable air purifier with a HEPA filter and activated carbon, as these can help to remove odors and particles from the air. Some models are relatively compact and can be positioned near your stove.

    2. Countertop Range Hoods: There are countertop or portable range hoods that can be placed on your countertop above the stove. They can help to vent smoke and odors directly outside or filter them.

    3. Fan and Window Combination: If possible, use a fan to create a cross-breeze with the window open across the room. This will help to push odors out faster.

    4. Odor Absorbers: Consider using products like baking soda, activated charcoal bags, or even specialized odor-eliminating gels that can neutralize smells around the kitchen area.

    5. Cookware Choices: Using a slow cooker or an electric pressure cooker can sometimes produce less smoke and odor compared to frying or grilling.

    6. Ventilation Techniques: While cooking, try to keep a small bowl of vinegar or a pot of simmering water with lemon or herbs on the stove to help absorb odors as you cook.

    7. Regular Cleaning: Make sure to clean your cooking area regularly, including the stove and any surfaces, to prevent leftover smells from lingering.

Hopefully, these suggestions will help you manage the cooking smoke and odors in your apartment! Good luck, and happy cooking!
