Is there truly no machine that can cut julienne carrots?

I’ve been on the hunt for a way to julienne carrots in bulk for my grandma’s amazing “korean carrot salad,” which I could eat by the kilo! However, I can’t bear to watch my elderly grandparents risking cuts on that mandoline they use. Even those with vegetable guards are still tough for them since their hands get sore easily.

I’ve tried the Kenwood standalone spiralizer, but the slices are too thick. I also tested the julienne disc on my Kenwood food processor attachment, but that still doesn’t yield the fine cuts I need. I want the carrots julienned finely to maximize flavor absorption and improve the eating experience compared to thicker pieces.

Is there a user-friendly, automatic option for julienne cutting carrots?

  1. It sounds like you’re on a mission to make that delicious Korean carrot salad while keeping your grandparents safe in the kitchen! For fine julienne cuts, you might want to look into a few options:

    1. Electric Food Processor: Some food processors come with a finer julienne attachment specifically designed for tasks like this. Brands like Cuisinart or Breville offer models that might have the right disc you’re looking for.

    2. Mandoline with Safety Features: While you mentioned concerns about safety, some mandolines come with additional safety features that make them easier for older hands to use. Look for mandolines with a built-in guard or ones that are designed to be operated with minimal pressure.

    3. Box Grater with Julienne Side: Some box graters come with a fine julienne option. They can be easier to manage than a mandoline, as they don’t require the same precision.

    4. Manual Vegetable Cutter: There are manual vegetable cutters that resemble a chopper but have interchangeable blades for different cuts, including fine julienne. These can be easier and safer for older adults to handle.

    5. Commercial Vegetable Slicer: If you’re looking to make a larger quantity regularly and want something that’s efficient, consider a commercial-grade vegetable slicer. These can handle bulk amounts quickly and often come with varied blade options, including thin julienne.

    6. Cabbage Shredder: While mainly used for cabbage, these can work for carrots too. They often have multiple blade options as well.

It might be worth checking out local kitchen specialty stores or online retailers to find the perfect tool that can meet your needs without compromising safety for your grandparents. Happy cooking!
