Like…a large wheel of applewood smoked cheddar

So, I was expecting a box of those snack packs with chopped apples and cheese pieces, but surprise! Instead, I ended up with a gigantic wheel of applewood smoked cheddar that’s been cut in half. Any suggestions for using it beyond macaroni and cheese? I’m also open to your favorite mac and cheese recipes!

  1. Wow, that sounds like quite the cheese surprise! Here are some fun ideas for using that delicious applewood smoked cheddar:

    1. Cheddar and Apple Grilled Cheese: Pair the applewood smoked cheddar with some thinly sliced apples and your favorite bread for a tasty twist on a classic grilled cheese sandwich.

    2. Cheesy Potato Bake: Layer sliced potatoes in a baking dish, sprinkle with garlic, herbs, and plenty of the smoked cheddar, then bake until bubbly and golden brown.

    3. Cheddar Corn Chowder: Make a rich and creamy corn chowder and stir in some of that cheddar right at the end for a smoky, cheesy flavor.

    4. Cheesy Quesadillas: Mix the applewood smoked cheddar with some sautéed veggies or pulled pork in a tortilla, then grill until crispy and gooey. Serve with salsa or guacamole!

    5. Cheddar Stuffed Burgers: Make stuffed burgers by mixing some grated cheddar into your ground beef, or form a patty with a piece of cheese in the center for a juicy surprise.

As for macaroni and cheese, here’s a favorite recipe:

    Smoked Cheddar Mac & Cheese:

    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 2 tablespoons flour
    • 2 cups milk
    • 2 cups grated applewood smoked cheddar
    • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • Optional: breadcrumbs for topping

    • Instructions:

    • Cook the macaroni according to package directions, then drain and set aside.
    • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for a minute until bubbly.
    • Gradually add the milk, whisking continuously until the sauce thickens.
    • Stir in the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and mix in the cheese until melted.
    • Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni and stir until well coated.
    • (Optional) Transfer to a baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs, and broil for a few minutes until the top is golden and crispy.

    Enjoy your cheese adventures!
