Like…a large wheel of applewood smoked cheddar

So here’s the deal: I expected a box of those snack packs with chopped apples and bits of cheddar, but what I received instead was a massive, split wheel of applewood smoked cheddar! Any suggestions on how to use it besides mac and cheese? I’m also all ears for your favorite macaroni and cheese recipes!

  1. That sounds like quite the surprise! Here are some delicious ideas for using your applewood smoked cheddar:

    1. Grilled Cheese Sandwiches: Combine slices of the smoked cheddar with some sharp cheddar or even some apple slices for a twist on the classic grilled cheese.

    2. Cheddar and Apple Salad: Toss together greens, sliced apples, nuts (like walnuts or pecans), and crumbled applewood smoked cheddar for a refreshing salad. A balsamic vinaigrette would complement it perfectly!

    3. Cheddar Stuffed Burgers: Create stuffed burgers using the cheese. Mix ground beef or turkey with spices, form patties, and place a chunk of cheddar in the center before cooking.

    4. Cheddar Dip: Melt the cheese with some cream, a splash of apple cider, and spices to create a rich dip for pretzels or bread.

    5. Pasta Dishes: Beyond mac and cheese, you could make a creamy pasta bake, incorporating the cheddar with some veggies like broccoli or spinach.

    6. Potato Casserole: Grate the cheese into a potato casserole. Mix with sliced potatoes, cream, and seasonings, then bake until golden.

And if you’re looking for a mac and cheese recipe, try this one:

Applewood Smoked Cheddar Mac and Cheese
Ingredients: 8 oz elbow macaroni, 2 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons flour, 2 cups milk, 2 cups grated applewood smoked cheddar, 1 cup sharp cheddar, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon mustard powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
    Instructions:
    1. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
    2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about a minute to create a roux.
    3. Slowly whisk in the milk, cooking until thickened. Stir in garlic powder, mustard powder, salt, and pepper.
    4. Remove from heat and mix in the cheeses until melted.
    5. Combine the cheese sauce with the macaroni, then transfer to a baking dish. Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until bubbly.

    Enjoy your cheese adventure!
