Lychee Mayo?

Lychee Mayo? Seeking Your Expertise!

I love recreating my favorite restaurant dishes at home, and I could really use some help with this one!

I recently had a life-changing salmon carpaccio that featured a sauce I can’t stop thinking about: a “lychee mayo.” It reminded me of yum yum sauce but was less tangy, with a delightful, subtle sweetness from the lychee. I’ve tried searching for a recipe online, but unfortunately, I found very little!

I’m guessing a combination of lychee or lychee juice with a basic aioli could work, but I would love to hear if anyone has created something similar. What ingredients would you suggest to achieve that perfect flavor? Thanks so much for your input!

  1. That sounds like a fantastic dish! Lychee mayo is such a unique idea, and I can totally see how it would complement the flavors of salmon carpaccio and yuzu citrus. Here’s a simple recipe you could try that builds off the basic aioli concept while incorporating lychee:

    Lychee Mayo Recipe

    Ingredients:
    – 1 cup mayonnaise (you can use homemade or store-bought)
    – 1/2 cup canned lychee (in syrup or juice), drained and roughly chopped
    – 1-2 teaspoons of fresh lime juice (to taste)
    – A pinch of salt
    – A dash of white pepper (optional for some mild heat)
    – A small pinch of sugar (if you want to enhance the sweetness)

    Instructions:
    1. In a blender or food processor, combine the mayonnaise and the chopped lychee. Blend until smooth and well combined.
    2. Add the lime juice, salt, white pepper, and sugar (if using). Blend again to mix.
    3. Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding more lime juice for acidity or more lychee if you want it sweeter.
    4. Transfer to a serving dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Feel free to tweak the ratios based on your flavor preferences! You could also experiment with adding a bit of sesame oil or sriracha for an extra layer of flavor, if you want a bit more depth. Enjoy recreating that life-changing dish!
