Rusty Peeler

Rusty Peeler
Is it safe to consume vegetables that have been prepared with a (very) rusty peeler? They do get boiled afterward, but I’m uncertain if that would eliminate any rust that might transfer to them.

  1. It’s generally not advisable to use a very rusty peeler on vegetables. While boiling can kill bacteria, it doesn’t necessarily remove rust particles that may have transferred to the vegetables. If the rust is minimal, it might not pose a significant health risk, but it’s better to err on the side of caution. Rust is primarily composed of iron oxide, which is not harmful in small amounts, but it’s still not a good practice to consume it. To avoid any potential issues, it’s best to use a clean, non-rusty peeler. If the peeler shows significant rust, it’s time to replace it.
