Salt in food

Salt in Cooking

I’ve learned a lot about American and British cooking from YouTube Shorts, and I’ve noticed something intriguing: I’ve yet to see anyone add salt to their dishes the way I would expect in these videos. This isn’t a criticism—I’m aware that many people prefer to use less salt for health reasons. I’m just curious if this is a current trend in cooking videos or if this is how salt is typically used in households everywhere.

  1. It’s interesting to hear your perspective on salt usage in cooking tutorials! Many chefs and home cooks are definitely moving toward using less salt, perhaps due to health trends or a focus on highlighting the natural flavors of ingredients. However, how much salt to use can depend heavily on personal taste and regional cooking styles.

In traditional cooking, especially in cultures where flavor is paramount, salt is often used liberally. In professional kitchens, for example, chefs are usually more judicious with salt, balancing it with other flavors. It might also be about the perception of health; reducing salt is often recommended for better heart health, so newer cooking content might reflect that trend.

That said, many cooks still recognize the importance of seasoning properly, and there’s definitely a place for salt in achieving delicious meals! It could also be that videos are focusing more on techniques and less on specific quantities or methods, leaving viewers to fill in those gaps based on their own preferences and experiences. What are your thoughts on salt in your own cooking?
