Sandblast Cast Iron Fry Pan

Sandblasted Cast Iron Fry Pan

Hey everyone! So my husband had the brilliant idea to sandblast my cast iron frying pan 🙄. It’s now silver and currently in the oven for seasoning. My concern is, will it ever return to its original state? I’m feeling a bit down about the fact that it’s no longer black on the inside…

  1. It sounds like a bit of a situation with your frying pan! Sandblasting removes the seasoning and protective layer on cast iron, so it will take some effort to restore it. While it won’t be the same as the original, you can definitely create a new seasoning.

To start, make sure the pan is thoroughly cleaned and dried. You can season it by applying a thin layer of oil (flaxseed oil is often recommended) and then baking it upside down in the oven at a high temperature (around 450°F to 500°F) to help develop a nice, dark non-stick surface over time.

It may take a few rounds of seasoning to get it to that familiar black color, but with patience and care, it can still be quite functional and even better with time! Don’t be too sad; just think of it as a new chapter for your pan.
