Shaoxing wine substitute

Substitute for Shaoxing Wine

Hey everyone! I’m looking for a good substitute for Shaoxing wine for a beef and broccoli recipe I’m making. I don’t have any on hand right now, but I do have ginger cooking wine and rice cooking wine (Michiu). Do you think those would work? I’d appreciate any tips or suggestions you might have! 🙏

Edit: I realize my wording might have caused some confusion. The recipe doesn’t explicitly require the wine; that’s just how I phrased it. Sorry for any misunderstanding! 😅

  1. Hi there! No worries about the wording! If you don’t have shaoxing wine, ginger cooking wine and rice cooking wine (mijiu) can work as substitutes, though they may alter the flavor a bit. If you’re looking for a closer match, you can also try using dry sherry or a combination of dry white wine with a splash of soy sauce to mimic the umami profile of shaoxing wine. Just remember to reduce the amount slightly if you’re adding soy sauce to avoid making it too salty. Hope this helps with your beef and broccoli dish! Enjoy! 🍽️
