Shopping for a new Rangetop because my 2006 vintage Viking VRT36 is Sagging – Does anyone else use a 24 qt pot on a gas Range or Rangetop?

I’m on the hunt for a new rangetop because my 2006 Viking VRT36 is sagging. I’m wondering if anyone else uses a 24 qt pot on a gas range or rangetop?

It seems I’ve overloaded my old Viking during my yearly Brunswick Stew cook with my 24qt All-Clad stock pot. In my research, I found that only Wolf mentions a weight capacity, which is 25 lbs per grate.

I’ve reached out to other brands like BlueStar, Hestan, and Fisher & Paykel, but haven’t received helpful information. If I don’t hear back soon, I may go with the Wolf and pick up two 12 quart pots instead.

If anyone has insights or experiences to share, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks,
David

  1. Hi David,

Sounds like you’ve been through quite a cooking adventure with that Viking! I can understand your concern about the weight limit when using such a large stock pot for your famous Brunswick Stew.

While it’s unfortunate that other manufacturers aren’t as transparent with their weight capacities, Wolf does have a great reputation for quality and performance, which makes it a solid choice. If you’re considering getting two 12-quart pots, that could definitely help distribute the weight better, though I understand that it’s not the same as one big pot.

As for other options, you might also want to consider checking out ranges from brands like Thermador or Viking’s current models – they often have strong build quality. I’ve heard positive feedback from users about those as well when it comes to larger pots.

In any case, if Wolf meets your needs and you’ve got a good warranty and support backing it, going with them for the sturdiness and reliability sounds wise. Good luck with your search, and may your next batch of Brunswick Stew be even better than the last!

    Best,
