Spice subscription?

Considering a Spice Subscription?

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of cooking lately, especially with different global flavors. Recently, I came across the idea of a spice subscription service that curates spices from various cuisines and delivers a selection to your door each month. It seems like a cost-effective way to explore new flavors, as they typically send smaller amounts of each spice compared to what you’d buy in-store.

Before I commit to one, I’d love to hear from anyone who has tried one of these services. I’m weighing my options and would appreciate any insights on your experiences. Here’s my shortlist of candidates:

  • Piquant Post – This service sends a selection of spice blends along with recipe cards for around $11 a month. They’ve received attention from major outlets like Buzzfeed, but I’m unsure if their subscription service is still active.

  • Cuisinably – Appears to be the most affordable, priced under $5 a month for three spice blends with a focus on a new region each month. I appreciate the idea of smaller samples, but they are relatively new with only a handful of reviews, so I’m curious if anyone has tried them.

  • Burlap and Barrel – This one seems pricier but promises high-quality spices. While I might end up with more than I can use, I think sharing with friends and family could be fun, and it’d make a lovely gift too.

  • RawSpiceBar Monthly Spice Adventure – Similar to Cuisinably, this service features a different region each month but offers larger portions for about $15 monthly. While I couldn’t find many reviews, I know RawSpiceBar has a solid reputation in the spice world.

If any of you have experience with these services, I would love to hear your thoughts! (I’ve included links, but let me know if they don’t work.) Worst case, I could try Cuisinably’s free trial (I don’t see any free trials offered for the others—feel free to correct me if I’m wrong!) and cancel if it doesn’t meet my expectations. At least I’d get some free spices, right? Thanks in advance for your help!

One response to “Spice subscription?”

  1. Hey there! It’s great that you’re looking to explore global flavors and cooking with spices. I’ve tried a couple of these subscriptions, so I can share my experiences.

    1. Piquant Post: I was a subscriber for several months and loved it! The spice blends were fantastic, and I appreciated the included recipe cards that made it easy to cook with them. They have a diverse range of flavors. I didn’t notice any major issues with their service, but I think it’s worth confirming their subscription status if you’ve seen unclear information.

    2. Burlap and Barrel: This is a premium option for a reason. The quality of the spices is top-notch, and they have a unique selection. While it is pricier, I found that the freshness made a significant difference in flavor. Sharing it with friends is a great idea if you’re worried about having too much.

    3. Cuisinably: I haven’t tried this one, but the price point is super appealing, especially since it’s a smaller sampling. It could be a good way to test the waters without committing to a larger quantity. Plus, I love the idea of focusing on a different region each month!

    4. RawSpiceBar: I gave this one a shot as well, and I was quite satisfied. The spice portions were generous, and the concept of exploring different regions was fun. I think they have a solid reputation, so I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them if you’re looking for more variety.

Overall, if you really want to go for it without any risk, trying Cuisinably’s free trial is a smart move! You can get a feel for subscription services without any commitment. Each of these options has its strengths, so you can’t really go wrong. Enjoy your cooking adventure!
