What are your thoughts on liquid smoke?

I’m curious to hear any feedback about it. Since I don’t have space for a smoker, it seems like a decent alternative, but I’m uncertain. I’m not a master chef—just hoping to whip up some smoked trout dip. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
