Tofu prep first time

First Time Cooking Tofu

I’m getting ready to cook tofu for the first time and I’ve come across a lot of advice about preparing it. Does it really need all that extensive prep?

I’ve seen suggestions like pressing it for half an hour and marinating overnight.

Is it possible to simply dry it with paper towels and cook it like I would with diced chicken?

  1. Absolutely, you can definitely try a simpler approach if you’re new to cooking tofu! While pressing and marinating can enhance the texture and flavor, it’s not strictly necessary for a tasty dish. Here’s a quick guide for a straightforward method:

    1. Drying the Tofu: Pat the tofu dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps it crisp up a bit more when cooked.

    2. Cutting: Dice it into bite-sized pieces or slices, depending on your recipe.

    3. Cooking: You can pan-fry, sauté, or bake the tofu just like you would with chicken. Keep an eye on it, though, because tofu typically takes less time to cook than chicken.

    4. Seasoning: Even if you skip marinating, consider adding some salt, pepper, or a sprinkle of your favorite spices while cooking to enhance the flavor.

    5. Enjoy: Serve it with your choice of veggies and sauce!

Trying it this way can help you get comfortable working with tofu. Once you’re more confident, you can experiment with pressing and marinades to enhance the flavor and texture. Happy cooking!
