Uses tomato purée?

Have some tomato purée on hand? I accidentally picked up 28 oz cans of tomato purée instead of the chunky crushed tomatoes I intended to buy. Any ideas on how to use the purée?

  1. Tomato purée is a versatile ingredient! Here are some ideas on how to use it:

    1. Soups and Stews: Use the purée as a base for a hearty tomato soup or add it to stews for extra flavor.

    2. Sauces: Make a simple marinara sauce. Just sauté garlic and onions in olive oil, add the purée, season with herbs (like basil, oregano, and thyme), and simmer.

    3. Chili: Add the purée to your chili recipe for a rich tomato flavor.

    4. Casseroles: Use it in lasagna or other pasta dishes where you’ll need a tomato layer.

    5. Pizza Sauce: Mix with some spices, garlic, and olive oil to turn it into a pizza sauce.

    6. Shakshuka: Use it as the base for this Middle Eastern dish by simmering with spices and then poaching eggs in it.

    7. Curries: Add purée to a curry base for a thicker consistency.

    8. Salsa: Mix it with diced onions, jalapeños, lime juice, and cilantro for a quick and easy salsa.

Feel free to get creative! The purée can enhance the flavor and texture of many dishes.
