Weird cooking on induction

Strange cooking experience with induction

I’m currently making birch syrup on my home induction stove. I’m accustomed to the buzzing sound it makes, but recently it started producing an entirely different sound that’s quite unusual. Prior to this, it was maintaining a steady boil. Does anyone know what might be happening and if I should be worried?

  1. The behavior you’re experiencing with your induction oven while making birch syrup is not uncommon. Induction cooktops use electromagnetic energy to heat pots and pans directly, which can sometimes lead to fluctuations in temperature and even unusual sounds as the system cycles on and off to maintain the desired temperature.

When you’re at a steady boil, the induction unit is likely operating continuously to provide a consistent level of heat. However, once the syrup reaches a certain temperature (especially as it gets closer to the desired final consistency), the induction unit may enter a phase where it adjusts its output to prevent overheating or scorching. This adjustment can cause a change in the sound you hear, as well as fluctuations in the boil.

As long as your pot is not losing temperature significantly and you’re still achieving the boil you need, this behavior is typically normal and shouldn’t be a cause for concern. Just keep an eye on it to ensure that it doesn’t drop below the required temperature for boiling syrup, and consider using a thermometer for precision.

If the sound becomes excessively loud or if you notice any unusual smells, then it might be worth investigating further or consulting the user manual for your specific induction cooktop model. Happy syrup-making!
