Weird cooking on induction

Strange cooking experience with induction

I’m currently making birch syrup on my home induction stove. I’ve gotten used to the buzzing sound it makes, but at one point it began to produce a new noise, which feels like a different level altogether. Until that moment, everything was boiling steadily. Does anyone know what’s happening and if I should be worried?

  1. It sounds like you’re experiencing some fluctuations in the heat output while cooking your birch syrup on an induction oven. Induction cooktops work by heating the pot directly through electromagnetic energy, which can sometimes lead to variations in heat if the pot is not perfectly flat or if it loses contact with the surface.

The change in sound or buzz you’re hearing could be due to the cooktop adjusting the power level to maintain a consistent boil as the syrup thickens. This is not uncommon, especially in recipes that require long cooking times or when liquids are reducing, as the changes in temperature and viscosity can cause the induction system to react continuously.

As long as your pot is still functioning properly and your syrup is cooking as expected, there likely isn’t anything to be concerned about. Just keep an eye on it and ensure that the temperature remains stable for your cooking process. If you notice any erratic behavior or if the heat drops too low for a prolonged period, you might want to consider adjusting your settings or using a different pan that is specifically designed for induction. Happy cooking!
