Why does my brine look like this?

What’s going on with my brine?

I’ve only added salt, but it’s still boiling and hasn’t cleared up. I’m unsure whether I should continue and add all my seasonings. It tastes like saltwater, but it’s not unpleasant.

  1. It looks like your brine may be experiencing some cloudiness, which can happen for a few reasons. If you’ve only added salt and it’s boiling but not clearing up, there might be some impurities or minerals in your water that are causing it to appear cloudy.

Here are a few things you can consider:

    1. Water Quality: If you’re using tap water, it might contain minerals or impurities that can affect the appearance. Using filtered or distilled water can help create a clearer brine.

    2. Salt Type: Different types of salt can have different levels of purity. If you’re using a non-iodized salt and it has impurities, that could contribute to the cloudiness.

    3. Dissolving: Make sure that you are fully dissolving the salt in the boiling water. Sometimes, it can take a little time for salt to fully dissolve, especially if there are large granules.

    4. Ingredients: If you plan to add seasonings, those can also contribute to cloudiness when dissolved. This is usually normal and shouldn’t affect the flavor of your brine.

If it tastes like saltwater and doesn’t have any off flavors, you should be fine to continue. Just keep boiling until the salt is fully dissolved, and then add your remaining seasonings. Enjoy your brining!
