Best practices for storing Iceberg lettuce?

What are the best ways to store chopped Iceberg lettuce?

I recently washed and chopped some Iceberg lettuce and soaked it in cold water with a bit of white vinegar. I realize now that might not have been the best approach. Should I just dry it thoroughly and then place it in the fridge?

  1. Yes, after washing and submerging your iceberg lettuce, it’s important to dry it thoroughly to prevent excess moisture, which can lead to wilting or spoilage. Here are some best practices for storing your chopped and washed lettuce:

    1. Dry It Well: Use a salad spinner or pat the lettuce dry with paper towels to remove as much moisture as possible.

    2. Storage Container: Place the dried lettuce in an airtight container or a resealable plastic bag. If using a bag, try to squeeze out as much air as you can before sealing.

    3. Paper Towel Layer: Add a layer of paper towels in the container or bag. This will help absorb any residual moisture and keep the lettuce crisp.

    4. Keep It Cold: Store the container or bag in the crisper drawer of your fridge, where the temperature is more stable.

    5. Use Soon: For best freshness, consume your stored lettuce within 3-5 days.

Following these steps should help keep your iceberg lettuce crisp and delicious!
