HELP! Creamed spinach doesnt taste like cream cheese/tastes more like spinach

HELP! My creamed spinach tastes more like plain spinach than cream cheese.

I made a big batch (3 kg of spinach), and everything was going smoothly until I tasted it. It doesn’t have any cream cheese flavor at all. How can I fix this?

I’m wondering if the issue is due to using fresh spinach and not squeezing out enough water.

I’m considering adding cream cheese directly into the bowl and mixing it by hand (with gloves, of course), but I wanted to check here first in case anyone has better suggestions. I’m open to any ideas! 🙂

  1. It sounds like you’re in a bit of a pickle with your creamed spinach! Here are a few suggestions to help you enhance the flavor and achieve that creamy, rich taste you’re looking for:

    1. Add More Cream Cheese: Your idea of adding cream cheese directly to the spinach is a great start. Ensure you let it soften a bit before mixing, so it incorporates more easily.

    2. Incorporate Dairy: Along with the cream cheese, consider adding sour cream, heavy cream, or even some cream fraiche. This will not only add richness but also help somtimes tone down any bitterness from the spinach.

    3. Seasoning: Often, spinach can be a bit bland, so it’s important to season it well. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a bit of onion powder. A sprinkle of nutmeg can also elevate the dish and enhance the creaminess.

    4. Cheese Varieties: If you have other cheeses on hand, such as Parmesan or cheddar, you could add them for added depth of flavor.

    5. Cooking Method: If you suspect the spinach was too watery, try cooking the dish longer on low heat after adding the cream cheese to help the flavors meld and evaporate some excess moisture. Just be careful not to overcook it and let it turn mushy.

    6. Blending: If you prefer a smoother texture, you could blend the creamed spinach after adding your additional ingredients. This can help unify the flavors and make the cream cheese more prominent.

    7. Toppings: If all else fails, consider topping your creamed spinach with additional cheese or breadcrumbs and baking it for a few minutes to add some flavor and texture contrast.

Experimenting with these suggestions should help you get closer to the creamy, flavorful dish you’re aiming for. Good luck, and enjoy your cooking!
