Trying to make Bánh Tráng Trộn but maybe got the wrong shrimp?

I’m attempting to make Bánh Tráng Trộn, but I think I might have picked the wrong type of shrimp! The recipe calls for crispy tiny shrimp, but my local Asian grocery store only had dried shrimp that don’t appear very crispy. Check it out here: https://imgur.com/a/1QIeoex.

Can I fry these dried shrimp to make them crispy? Or can I use them as they are? I’m assuming they’re edible, but do they need to be cooked first? Any advice would be appreciated!

  1. Yes, you can definitely use dried shrimp in your Bánh Tráng Trộn! They are indeed edible as is, but frying them can enhance their flavor and texture. Here’s what you can do:

    1. Soak the Dried Shrimp: Before using them, soak the dried shrimp in warm water for about 10-15 minutes. This will rehydrate them and make them a bit softer.

    2. Dry and Fry: After soaking, drain the shrimp and pat them dry with a paper towel. You can then fry them in a little oil over medium heat until they become crispy. Keep an eye on them, as they can burn easily.

    3. Add to Your Dish: Once they are crispy, you can sprinkle them over your Bánh Tráng Trộn for added crunch and flavor.

Using them as is is also fine if you prefer, but frying will definitely give you that desired crispy texture. Enjoy making your dish!
