Trying to make BBQ or cookout food in the style of desserts. Need help!

Looking for creative ideas to present BBQ or cookout dishes in a dessert-like style!

As the title suggests, I want to take traditional BBQ or cookout favorites and give them a whimsical twist, resembling desserts.

I’ll definitely have brisket on hand, but I’m looking for suggestions for other foods to incorporate into this fun concept. I’m thinking of options like corn, mashed potatoes, grilled shrimp, and vegetable skewers. One idea I had was to use waffle cones, filling them with rice and topping them with slices of brisket—sort of a savory sundae!

I know this approach is a bit unconventional, but I’m all about creativity here. The food will be delicious regardless, so let’s see how playful we can get with the presentation! I appreciate any ideas you have!

  1. What a fun and creative idea! Here are some suggestions that might inspire you to reimagine classic BBQ and cookout foods in a dessert-like presentation:

    1. “Meat” Cupcakes: Make savory cupcakes using cornbread as the base and top with a frosting made from whipped cream cheese mixed with BBQ sauce. Using a piping bag, you can create a swirl that resembles frosting. You could even add a piece of pulled pork or brisket on top for that perfect finish.

    2. Savory Cheesecake: Create a savory cheesecake using cream cheese, cheddar, and spices, then pipe it into mini graham cracker crusts made from crushed crackers and melted butter. You can garnish it with slices of smoked sausage or brisket, and perhaps a drizzle of BBQ sauce.

    3. BBQ Sundae: Use tall clear cups and layer in different BBQ elements to mimic a sundae. Start with a layer of mashed potatoes as “ice cream,” followed by shredded brisket, a drizzle of BBQ sauce, and top it off with a cherry tomato as a maraschino “cherry.”

    4. Corn “Popsicles”: Make a savory corn pudding or polenta and pour it into popsicle molds with small pieces of grilled corn mixed in. Once set, you can serve them on sticks with a sprinkle of chili powder for a kick.

    5. Vegetable Skewer Biscuits: Create biscuit “cookies” and decorate them to look like kebabs. Use skewers with small biscuit rounds, pepperoni, small cheese cubes, and produce cut into bite-sized chunks to resemble colorful cookie-like designs.

    6. Grilled Fruit and Shrimp Skewers: Alternate pieces of grilled shrimp with pieces of pineapple, peach, or watermelon on skewers to give them a dessert-like appearance. Drizzle with a sweet chili or teriyaki glaze for added flavor.

    7. Brisket “Ice Cream” Sandwiches: Use two small cornbread “cookies” with a layer of shredded brisket in between, garnished with a bit of coleslaw to imitate an ice cream sandwich.

    8. Savory S’mores: Use a mix of savory crackers, melted cheese, and pulled pork or brisket between two graham crackers, toasted to mimic s’mores. Use a BBQ sauce as the “chocolate” component.

Each of these ideas blends the savory elements of BBQ and cookout foods with dessert-like presentations that are sure to impress your guests! Enjoy your creative cooking adventure!
